Can I use a Discount code to get a free Gift?
Yes, our free gift app supports adding gift when a discount code is applied but You will need to use our other App Dr. Discount on Cart. https://apps.shopify.com/discount-on-cart-pro
Create a discount code in Shopify based on your requirements and should have 0-value.

Next, in the Free Gift app, create a Gift Goal, with a requirement that the discount code created in step (1) must be applied in order to get the gift.
Configure and Install the widget of the Discount On Cart app so that customers can apply their discount code on the cart page or drawer cart.
Test the Code and make sure that the Gift is added in the Cart/Drawer Cart.
